Definitive playlist for sure.

Weird trivia: The Lemon Pipers of "Green Tambourine" fame were ultmately the progenitors of the Ram Jam version of "Black Betty." Bill Bartlett of The Lemon Pipers was the main guy behind the Oxford, Ohio, band, and he took a reworked version of Leadbelly's song into his new band, Starstruck, which recorded it. But "Black Betty" never made it to the airwaves after Starstruck quickly fizzled, but Bartlett took the recording of it into his next band, Ram Jam.

The '70's-era version of "Black Betty" by Ram Jam doesn't really feature any of Ram Jam on it, save for Bartlett. The official video for the song features Bartlett on vocals, and IIRC it was filmed in his mother-in-law's yard.

Needless to say, "Black Betty" is as far from "Green Tambourine" as it gets.

Dan--Great story! An unlikely connection, indeed! Oh, and I've seen that video. It 100% looks like it was filmed in somebody's mother-in-law's yard:-D.
