I never heard the Bahamian original before I heard the Beach Boys version, and I only understood fractions of it at first (a voyage to Nassau, cook got "the fits", somebody named Benny ate all the corn, etc.). But "this is the worst trip/I've ever been on" sold me on the idea that it wasn't a good thing.
Funny enough, that's one of a few lines that Brian Wilson slightly tweaked to personalize the tune. In the original folk tune, the line goes "This is the worst trip/Since I've been born." Some have claimed that Wilson's alteration ("this is the worst trip/I've ever been on") is actually a subtle nod to LSD.

My pleasure! Thanks, Joe!
